Trinity House maintains and operates around 450 buoys. We are looking for a proactive individual to join our Buoy yard team to process returned buoys from sea carrying out the day-to-day maintenance, repair and upgrades in a safe and efficient manner to keep our fleet of buoys in top condition. Your duties would include such tasks as water jetting, grit blasting, paint spraying, mechanical assembly and plant operation. The role will also require occasional visits on land or sea to remote locations around the coast to carry out repairs and maintenance to buoys, beacons and lighthouses.
What You’ll Do
- Health and Safety: Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring all tasks are carried out to a high standard in accordance with Health and Safety guidance and Trinity House policies.
- Buoy Yard Operations: Become proficient in all aspects of Buoy Production and maintenance covering a variety of tasks such as Grit Blasting and Paint Spraying as well as mechanical assembly and the creation of solar packages.
- Collaborate with the Buoy yard supervisor: Work as part of the team and in collaboration with the Buoy yard team leader and supervisor to provide a high priority response to aids to navigation failure.
- Plant Operation: Operate and maintain various items of plant from forklift trucks and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms to Overhead and Wheeled Cranes.
- Report keeping: Keep up to date reports on work carried out, logging various details related to your daily tasks.
- Travel around the U.K.: You will have the opportunity to travel to various areas around the U.K. working both at other depots as well as on Lighthouses and beacons that are located all around the coast. This will require the occasional period working away from home.
- Gain Extensive training and Qualifications: You will undertake a vast array of training to build your knowledge and skills on all aspects of the role ranging from plant and machinery operation and maintenance, general Buoy Yard tasks as well as record keeping. Ensuring you are fully competent within your role.
