About the Role
We're looking for a proactive and people-focused Communication & Engagement Officer (part‐time, fixed‐term) to play a key role in delivering our Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Programme. You will lead practical, frontline‐focused communication and engagement that drives awareness, understanding and adoption of new digital ways of working. This is a hands‐on, people‐focused role, ensuring engagement is inclusive, two‐way and shaped by operational teams across vessels, depots and offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and continuously improve a practical communication and engagement approach that supports awareness, understanding and adoption.
- Ensure messaging is clear, accessible and relevant to both frontline and office‐based teams, embedding two‐way engagement and feedback.
- Build strong relationships across operational, leadership and office‐based colleagues, including leading on‐site and face‐to‐face engagement.
- Establish and manage a User Champion Network to support adoption, testing and insight.
- Deliver coordinated, multi‐channel communications (digital, face‐to‐face and offline), tailored to different audiences.
- Work with programme teams to drive change and build digital confidence through practical, user‐focused engagement.
- Gather and use feedback (e.g. champions, surveys, engagement activity) to improve delivery and measure effectiveness.
- Provide governance and act as a trusted advisor on engagement, managing risks and promoting open, consistent communication.
About You
Experience & Skills
- Experience delivering communication and engagement in complex programmes or transformation environments.
- Strong experience using digital collaboration tools (e.g. Microsoft 365/Teams) alongside offline channels.
- Experience engaging frontline or operational staff.
- Experience managing champion or ambassador networks.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, practical messaging.
- Understanding of change and adoption principles.
- Experience in a digital transformation environment (desirable).
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g. communications, marketing, journalism or business) or equivalent experience.
- Professional membership (e.g. CIPR or CIM) or relevant certification (desirable).
