Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Finance Director to join an established organisation on a 6-month fixed term contract. This role will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure robust financial controls, and support key transformation projects during a critical period for the organisation.Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Financial Leadership
- Act as a key member of the Executive Team, advising the CEO and Board on financial strategy, risk, and performance.
- Lead the financial planning process, including budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
- Provide commercial insight to support strategic decision-making and long-term sustainability.
2. Financial Management & Governance
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of management accounts, statutory accounts, and reports for the Board and external stakeholders.
- Oversee treasury, cash flow, and working capital management.
- Maintain compliance with all financial regulations, tax obligations, and reporting requirements.
- Work closely with the Audit & Finance Committee to uphold strong governance standards.
3. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, manage, and develop the finance team to ensure high standards of performance and service delivery.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and strong internal controls.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders including auditors, and other funding partners.
- Provide financial expertise for grant applications, funding agreements, and strategic partnerships.
5. Change & Project Support
- Support ongoing transformation and modernisation initiatives, including system improvements and process enhancements.
- Ensure that financial implications of strategic projects (e.g., major events, investment plans) are well understood and managed.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role.
- Proven track record of strategic financial planning, governance, and risk management.
- Strong understanding of charity, not-for-profit, or sports sector financial regulations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
- Strong leadership skills with experience of managing and developing teams.
- Commercial acumen and ability to influence strategic decision-making.
Desirable
- Experience working within a National Governing Body, or similar membership-based environment.
- Knowledge of grant funding and lottery funding mechanisms.
- Experience with financial systems improvement and change management.
