An opportunity has arisen at Trinity College for a General Maintenance Assistant to join the Works Department, which consists of electricians, carpenters, plumbers, builders, decorators and maintenance assistants. The team provides maintenance and support for the services and upkeep of the buildings on this extensive and historic site in the centre of Cambridge.
The main duties of the General Maintenance Assistant will involve providing both reactive and planned maintenance covering general repairs, cleaning of shower heads, meter reading, ladder inspections, furniture moving, building condition surveys, reporting faults and problems, verbally and in writing and providing general support as directed.
Candidates should have experience of working within a building maintenance environment, possess basic IT skills such as the use of emails, record keeping and smartphone technology. Candidates should be adaptable, able to use their own initiative within set parameters, and be able to respond to emergencies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential together with the ability to work flexibly as part of a team sharing ideas and experiences.
The work includes climbing staircases, accessing awkward areas and walking/cycling between areas across the extensive site. The job holder must be comfortable working at height and should be able to use a cycle (provided) to transport themselves and tools around College and its surrounding sites. A full driving licence is also required to drive the College van.
Working hours are 39 per week 0800 to 1700 Monday to Thursday and 0800 to 1600 Friday with an unpaid hour for lunch. Salary £29,960 per annum. In addition to the salary, we offer a benefits package, which includes contributory pension scheme, private health and dental care, subsidised gym and free lunch whilst on duty (subject to eligibility).
