To investigate and manage a portfolio of motor claims where fraud is suspected or identified, ensuring that all investigations are conducted thoroughly, proportionately, and in line with regulatory requirements, internal best practice, and evidential standards. The role is responsible for identifying fraudulent activity, mitigating indemnity spend, and supporting accurate and defensible claims outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of suspected fraud claims from referral through to resolution.
  • Conduct structured investigations to validate or repudiate claims in line with best practice.
  • Ensure all actions are compliant with legislation (including Data Protection) and internal governance standards.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and auditable file notes and MI.
  • Minimise indemnity spend through robust fraud detection and challenge.
  • Deliver outcomes that are fair, evidence-based, and defensible at FOS or litigation stage.
  • Handle a caseload of motor fraud investigations including staged, contrived accidents, induced incidents, exaggerated claims, policy misrepresentation.
  • Develop and document investigation strategies for each case.
  • Gather, review and analyse evidence.
  • Determine whether fraud thresholds are met and progress accordingly.
  • Conduct open-source intelligence (OSINT) and internal database searches to validate claims.
  • Identify links between claimants, vehicles, addresses, and previous claims.
  • Utilise fraud tools and data sources to strengthen evidential position (e.g. claims history, link analysis).
Decision Making & Outcomes:
  • Make clear, evidence-based decisions to repudiate claims, prevent further indemnity spend and remove fraud concerns where appropriate.
  • Ensure decisions align with regulatory expectations and are supported by clear rationale.
Compliance & Governance:
  • Ensure all investigations follow Counter Fraud Best Practice Guide principles, maintain evidential integrity and audit trail.
  • Accurately record all actions and decisions on the claims system.
  • Contribute to audit activity and quality assurance processes.
  • Identify emerging fraud trends and patterns.
  • Highlight gaps in processes, controls or systems.
  • Support development of fraud strategies, controls, and MI reporting.
  • Assist with training or knowledge sharing across the department.
Key Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working within a Motor Claims Counter Fraud role.
  • Strong understanding of motor claims processes (liability, credit hire, PI, etc.).
  • Exposure to fraud typologies (staged, induced, exaggerated claims).
  • Knowledge of fraud detection techniques and investigation principles.
  • Understanding of regulatory environment (FOS, CIDRA, Data Protection).
  • Awareness of fraud tools and intelligence sources.
