Purpose and Scope
Under the general supervision of the Senior, to work as part of a team to attend to the personal and emotional needs of the Residents. In view of the nature of the work, no information concerning clients must be communicated to anyone who is not either employed by the Care Home or attending the Resident in a professional capacity.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- To be mindful of the rights of Residents living in their ‘own’ Home, including the need to encourage clients to maintain and achieve maximum independence.
- To advise, and assist, with physical tasks, e.g., assistance with dressing, washing, feeding, personal laundry, housework, assistance with matters relating to personal hygiene and care.
- To undertake a key role as key worker to designated Residents and to be involved in the Care planning system for those Residents.
- To share in social tasks aimed at creating a supportive community for Residents, including assisting them to make and maintain contact with family, friends and the community and assist with shopping and recreation.
- To observe and monitor changes in the Residents health, mood and behaviour and report such changes to the Senior on Duty.
- To respect the Residents’ rights to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- To respond appropriately to calls from Residents.
- Where it is considered appropriate and with the prior approval of the Senior, to assist in managing routine drugs on a day-to-day basis. This may include collecting prescriptions, drugs and dressings from the relevant GP or dispensing chemist.
- With the prior approval of the Senior, to advise and assist Clients with purchasing clothing, toiletries etc.
- To understand the importance of good communication (including completion of relevant forms and records), observation and cohesive teamwork.
- To attend meetings and participate in ‘in-house’ training and to carry learned skills into practice.
- To ensure that services are provided in accordance with the Home’s standards for Equal Opportunities and objectives of Quality Assurance.
- To perform such other duties, of a like nature, as may from time to time be required by the Director / Registered Care Home Manager / Deputy Manager / Senior.
