JOB DESCRIPTION: NIGHT CARE ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: MANAGER OF HOME
SCOPE OF THE POST: The Night Care Assistant provides waking night cover for the Home including the performance of domestic duties. Company rules and the Residents’ Charter bind all employees, which are detailed in separate documents. The prime concern is to act in the best interest of the residents at all times and to enable them to reach their full potential without loss of dignity or any intrusion into their rights or beliefs as an individual. In view of the nature of the work, no information concerning service users must be communicated to anyone who is not either employed by the Home or attending the service user in a professional capacity.
Responsibilities
- To help residents who need assistance with washing and toileting, dressing, undressing;
- To help residents who have limited mobility or physical disabilities, making best use of aids provided;
- To assist in the control of incontinence, providing comfort and dignity;
- To read and write reports; to take part in staff and resident’s meetings (when appropriate) and attend training sessions when requested;
- To check commodes, as required;
- To assist residents to bed when they choose to retire;
- To carry out regular checks on residents throughout the night at intervals determined by the Manager of the Home;
- To give help and reassurance to residents, as necessary, including provision of prescribed medicines and the application of creams, within the approved control procedures of the Home;
- In the time available between attending to residents to undertake domestic duties;
- To ensure that the security of the Home is maintained at all times;
- To follow approved hand-over procedures at end of each duty session;
- To carry out any other duties that may occur from time to time as may be required by the Head of Home or his/her duty appointed representative.
- To ensure that services are provided in accordance with the Home’s standards, Equal Opportunities and objectives of Quality Assurance;
- To ensure observance and adherence to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

- Tidying lounge areas and polishing furniture
- Cleaning downstairs toilets
- Mopping kitchen floor
- Preparing food
