Job Summary
The Associate will support the clients CRE finance deal team with their underwriting of complex CRE (Commercial Real Estate) loans secured by UK, European and APAC commercial real estate investments. The Associate will be responsible for the review and screening of financing opportunities as well as of due diligence reports for transactions in execution (valuation, TDD reports, EDD reports etc.) and legal documentations for new CRE loan transactions to identify red flags or risks and to challenge assumptions. The Associate will collaborate with the client's in‑house underwriting, asset management, middle office and legal teams to evaluate and elevate any potential risks as necessary. In addition, the Associate will be required to assist the underwriting team with cash‑flow modeling and report on progress to senior management as required.
Responsibilities
- Support the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) finance deal team in reviewing info memos and due diligence reports for new CRE loans secured by UK, European and occasionally APAC real estate investments, for both income‑producing and development financings.
- Collaborate with the client’s in‑house originators, structurers, legal, credit and asset management teams.
- Provide ongoing support to the CRE finance deal team and the client’s origination team as needed.
- Address all queries in a timely manner and make recommendations to senior management.
- Assist in creating financial models.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders as needed to ensure work is produced in a timely and accurate manner.
- Produce internal quarterly and ad‑hoc reports using client templates and systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, business, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in underwriting, financial modelling, due diligence review, with a focus on real estate.
- Demonstrable analytical and technical skills as well as very strong verbal and written English. Other European languages ideal.
- Modeling experience in Excel and should be able to independently run lease and other internal models.
- Proficient in Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modelling.
- Should be able to perform comprehensive and in‑depth underwriting and review of the real estate and market overview, demonstrating expertise in analysing complex financial data and creating detailed reports.
- Preparing presentations for internal and client discussions.
- Effective communication skills, capable of effectively conveying complex information to diverse audiences.
- Collaborative team player, able to work seamlessly with cross‑functional teams and external partners.
- Able to deliver results in a dynamic environment.
- Skilled in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines without compromising quality.
- Back leverage/loan on loan experience preferred but not necessary.
