About the Role: As the Manager of Quality Engineering for the Field System Division, you will be a pivotal leader responsible for establishing and driving a culture of quality across our suite of machine control and machine automation products. You will build and mentor a high-performing team of quality engineers dedicated to ensuring our hardware and software solutions meet the highest standards of reliability, performance, and user experience. Reporting directly to the Engineering Director, you will operate with significant autonomy, setting the strategic direction for quality assurance and collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver world-class products to the heavy civil construction industry.
Responsibilities:
- Industry Expertise: Leverage your understanding of the heavy civil construction industry and machine control systems to ensure our testing strategies effectively address real-world customer needs and use cases.
- Strategic Quality Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive quality strategy aligned with product roadmaps, project priorities, and business objectives for the Trimble Earthworks portfolio (Earthworks, Siteworks, Siteworks Machine Guidance, and supporting software).
- Team Building and Development: Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of talented quality engineers, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment. Empower the team to take ownership and drive quality initiatives.
- Test Strategy and Execution: Define and implement robust test strategies, methodologies, and frameworks encompassing functional, integration, system, performance, reliability, and user acceptance testing.
- Process Improvement: Champion continuous improvement of quality processes, tools, and metrics to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and product quality.
- Automation Advocacy: Drive the adoption of test automation strategies and tools to improve test coverage, efficiency, and repeatability.
- Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate quality status, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders across the organization.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate quality risks, ensuring timely resolution of defects and preventing recurrence.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish and track key quality metrics, providing regular reports and insights to engineering leadership on product quality and team performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or related field). Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in quality engineering, with a significant portion of that experience in the heavy civil construction industry and with machine control systems.
- Experience operating Trimble Earthworks or competitive machine control systems.
- Comfortable operating heavy construction machinery, including excavators, dozers, motorgraders, and compactors.
- Demonstrated experience in testing complex systems involving hardware, embedded software, IMUs, GNSS, and cloud software.
- Proven track record of leading high-performing teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work independently and drive initiatives with minimal direct supervision.
