Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced and driven Children's Home Registered Manager to lead a well-established 3-bed EBD children's home in Badgworth, Axbridge. This is an operational home with a full staff team and young people already placed, requiring a confident and capable Registered Manager who can step in and maintain strong care standards, team stability and regulatory compliance. As Children's Home Registered Manager, you will have full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the service, ensuring high-quality, child-centred care while driving positive outcomes in line with Ofsted expectations.
This is a fantastic opportunity for either an experienced Registered Manager or a strong Deputy ready for progression into a stable, well-supported environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Home Management
- Act as the registered Children's Home Registered Manager for the service
- Hold full operational and strategic responsibility for the home
- Maintain continuity within an established team and placement set-up
- Ensure staffing, rotas and on-call arrangements meet the needs of the home
- Lead on Ofsted inspections and regulatory compliance
- Care Quality & Safeguarding
- Ensure high-quality, child-focused care is delivered consistently
- Promote a safe, nurturing and structured environment for young people
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in placement
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies are implemented effectively
- Maintain full compliance with Children's Homes Regulations and safeguarding standards
- Staff Leadership & Development
- Lead, support and develop an established residential staff team
- Deliver effective supervision, performance management and appraisals
- Promote a strong, consistent and positive care culture
- Manage conduct, disciplinary and performance issues where required
- Maintain high levels of staff engagement and retention
- Compliance, Quality & Performance
- Maintain accurate records, audits and reporting in line with regulatory requirements
- Ensure the home continues to meet Good or higher Ofsted standards
- Drive continuous improvement and service quality
- Manage budgets and resources effectively
Essential Criteria
- Experience working within Children's Residential Homes
- Minimum 2-3 years' experience in a senior role (Deputy Manager or above)
- Proven leadership experience managing residential childcare teams
- Strong knowledge of:
- Children's Homes Regulations
- Ofsted frameworks and inspection standards
- Safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Hold or be working towards Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management
- Experience of maintaining or contributing to Good or Outstanding Ofsted outcomes
- Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills
- Ability to work in a demanding and dynamic environment
Desirable Criteria
- Experience as a Registered Manager within an EBD setting
- Experience managing an established home with active placements
- Strong Deputy Manager looking to step into a Registered Manager role
- Consistent Ofsted track record at Good or above
Salary & Benefits
- Basic salary of £46,202.89, rising to £53,402.89 with bonuses
- Ofsted bonus: £1,000 for Outstanding, £500 for Good
- Occupancy bonus: £175 per child (after first placement)
- Up to £350 per month based on occupancy
- Car allowance: £10 per weekday, £50 per day (weekends)
- Annual leave: 30 days including Bank Holidays
