Role Overview
We are recruiting a dedicated and inspiring Multi-Skills Construction Tutor to deliver high-quality vocational training to learners at HMP Onley. You will support learners to develop practical skills, technical knowledge, and positive workplace behaviours across Dry Lining, Plastering, and Brickwork. Your role is central to helping individuals progress into further training or employment while reducing re-offending. This position is ideal for someone passionate about construction, teaching, and supporting learners who may have had limited prior education. You will design engaging sessions, build learner confidence, and create a positive learning environment that drives achievement.
Key Responsibilities
- Vocational Delivery & Learner Engagement
- Deliver structured, engaging lessons in Dry Lining, Plastering, and Brickwork.
- Develop personalised learning plans tailored to individual goals and starting points.
- Prepare, deliver, and review high-quality lesson plans and practical workshop activities.
- Motivate learners, building their confidence, skills, and commitment to learning.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to support learner development.
- Complete ILPs, registers, reviews, awarding-body documentation, and all required admin.
- Adhere to safeguarding, equality, health & safety, and data protection standards.
- Meet and maintain contractual KPIs and quality expectations.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and wider prison staff to support learner progression.
- Contribute to curriculum development, workshop improvements, and ongoing quality enhancement.
- Participate in CPD, standardisation, and team meetings.
Essential Criteria
- Level 2 vocational qualification in Dry Lining, Plastering, Brickwork, or related trade.
- Strong, hands-on experience in at least one of these trades.
- Experience delivering construction training or workshop-based instruction.
- Ability to engage learners of varied abilities using diverse teaching methods.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and classroom-management skills.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, equality, H&S, and data protection.
Desirable Criteria
- Level 3 qualification in Dry Lining, Plastering, or Brickwork.
- Teaching or assessing qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Experience working in secure, challenging, or disadvantaged environments.
- Knowledge of the OFSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
