We are recruiting an enthusiastic and committed Functional Skills Tutor (Maths & English) to deliver high-quality education to learners at HMP Highpoint. This rewarding role involves teaching small groups across Entry Level 1 to Level 2, supporting learners to build essential literacy and numeracy skills, achieve accredited qualifications, and progress towards long-term personal and employment goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
- Create personalised learning plans based on individual starting points and progression goals.
- Prepare, deliver, and review engaging lesson plans covering literacy, numeracy, and employability skills.
- Motivate learners to improve attendance, participation, and achievement.
- Provide constructive, timely feedback and adapt delivery to learner needs.
Programme Administration & Compliance:
- Complete all required documentation, including registers, ILPs, progress reviews, and awarding-body paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, equality, and data protection standards.
- Meet contractual KPIs, quality thresholds, and reporting deadlines.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Work closely with colleagues to support learner progression towards qualifications and employment pathways.
- Contribute to curriculum development, quality improvement, and standardisation.
- Participate in CPD and quality assurance processes to maintain high teaching standards.
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 in Maths and English (or equivalent).
- Ability to deliver Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
- Strong experience in teaching or training adults or young people.
- Ability to use varied teaching methods to engage diverse learner groups.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and organisational skills.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, equality, H&S, and data protection.
Desirable Criteria:
- Recognised teaching or assessing qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Experience delivering curriculum in roll-on, roll-off environments.
- Experience working with disadvantaged groups or within secure settings.
- Knowledge of the OFSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
