Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and adaptable

Cover Tutor Vocational Skills to deliver high-quality vocational training across a range of construction, digital and workplace skills programmes at

Cover Tutor Vocational Skills will support delivery across multiple vocational areas, providing curriculum cover and learner support where required.

Ideally, candidates will possess occupational competence and practical experience in at least two or three of the following disciplines:

  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Wall & Floor Tiling
  • Painting & Decorating
  • Dry Lining
  • ICT
  • Food Safety

Working with small groups of prison-based learners, you will help individuals develop practical skills, technical knowledge and workplace behaviours that support rehabilitation, progression and future employment opportunities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a vocational professional who enjoys working across multiple subjects and can inspire learners through engaging, hands-on delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vocational Delivery & Learner Support
  • Deliver vocational training across a range of curriculum areas as required.
  • Support learners to develop practical trade, workplace and employability skills.
  • Plan and deliver engaging sessions tailored to individual learner needs and abilities.
  • Create and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and learner targets.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Promote confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.
  • Support learners to achieve accredited and non-accredited outcomes.

• Provide teaching cover and support across

  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing

  • Work flexibly to meet curriculum requirements and operational demands.
  • Support curriculum delivery teams to maintain continuity of learning.
  • Quality, Compliance & Administration
  • Complete learner documentation including registers, reviews and progress records.
  • Maintain compliance with awarding body and quality assurance requirements.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ensure all delivery meets contractual and inspection standards.
  • Follow all prison security, health & safety and data protection procedures.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Work closely with tutors, prison staff and education colleagues.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and learner progression initiatives.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and professional development.
  • Share best practice across vocational curriculum areas.

Essential Criteria

  • Occupational competence and industry experience in at least two or three of the following:
  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Wall & Floor Tiling
  • Painting & Decorating
  • Dry Lining
  • ICT
  • Food Safety
  • Relevant vocational qualification(s) within your specialist area(s).
  • Experience delivering training, mentoring or vocational instruction.
  • Ability to engage learners using a variety of teaching approaches.
  • Strong communication, organisational and time-management skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, health & safety and equality principles.

Desirable Criteria

  • Teaching or assessing qualification (AET, PTLLS, TAQA, CAVA or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering training within a custodial, further education or adult learning environment.
  • Experience working with awarding bodies and accredited qualifications.
  • Knowledge of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
  • Ability to deliver across multiple vocational disciplines.
