Role Overview
We\’re currently recruiting for a Plumbing Trainer to deliver high-quality, engaging vocational training within HMP Brixton. This is a rewarding opportunity to support prison-based learners, helping them gain the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to progress into meaningful employment upon release.
The Plumbing Trainer working closely with the onsite education team and curriculum leads, you\’ll deliver accredited qualifications aligned to the current scheme of work and ensure that all learners are supported to reach their potential. You\’ll use varied teaching strategies and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment tailored to individual needs and abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver plumbing qualifications to small groups of learners in a secure setting
- Follow structured schemes of learning and contribute to curriculum development
- Monitor and review learner progress through tutorials and action planning
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to learners to help them achieve
- Ensure compliance with awarding body standards, internal quality assurance, and prison policies
- Use a range of teaching methods to engage learners with varied needs and abilities
- Promote a positive and respectful classroom culture, embedding safeguarding, equality and diversity
- Work collaboratively with wider education, prison and support teams
Essential Criteria
- Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Vocational experience and qualifications in Plumbing
- Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and engage learners
- Confident working in a structured and sometimes challenging environment
Desirable Criteria
- Teaching or Assessing qualification (e.g. PTLLS, AET, CAVA)
- Experience delivering training in a prison or alternative education setting
- Ability to deliver across a wider vocational curriculum where needed
If you do not currently hold a teaching qualification, full support and training will be provided as part of your probationary period.
