Role Overview
We are recruiting a skilled and motivated Motor Vehicle Mechanic Tutor to deliver high‑quality vocational training within HMP Highpoint. You will work with small groups of adult learners, developing their practical mechanics skills, technical understanding, and employability behaviours to support rehabilitation and reduce re‑offending. This role involves preparing structured lesson plans, creating personalised learning pathways, and delivering hands‑on training sessions. You will support learners in overcoming barriers, building confidence, and achieving recognised qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Vocational Training & Learner Support
- Deliver Motor Vehicle Mechanics training up to Level 2.
- Create tailored learning plans that link directly to skill development and employment goals.
- Plan and deliver engaging, practical lessons on servicing, repair, diagnostics, health & safety, and workshop practice.
- Motivate learners to improve attendance, participation, and achievement.
- Provide constructive feedback and adjust teaching materials to meet learner needs.
- Programme Administration & Compliance
- Complete all required documentation, including ILPs, registers, learner reviews, and awarding‑body paperwork.
- Adhere to all safeguarding, health & safety, equality, and data protection standards.
- Meet contractual KPIs, quality benchmarks, and reporting deadlines.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with colleagues and prison education staff to support learner progression.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of training materials.
- Participate in quality assurance activity, standardisation, and CPD.
Essential Criteria
- Level 2 qualification in Motor Vehicle Mechanics (or equivalent).
- Strong, hands‑on experience within the motor trade.
- Previous experience delivering vocational training or practical instruction.
- Ability to engage and motivate learners with differing abilities and backgrounds.
- Strong communication, organisational, and facilitation skills.
- Understanding of safeguarding, equality, health & safety, and data protection.
Desirable Criteria
- Teaching or assessing qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Experience delivering training in secure or disadvantaged learning environments.
- Experience developing curriculum and delivering roll‑on, roll‑off programmes.
- Knowledge of the OFSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
