Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager - Vocational Education to support the delivery of high-quality learning within a custodial environment at HMP Brixton. As Assistant Manager - Vocational Education, you will support the Education Manager in overseeing the vocational curriculum, ensuring it meets the needs of learners and aligns with employer demands. You will play a key role in driving quality, performance and innovation across the provision, leading and supporting tutors to deliver engaging and effective learning. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong teaching professional or existing curriculum lead who is passionate about improving learner outcomes and confident managing quality, performance and development within an education setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Leadership & Development
- Support the management and development of the vocational curriculum
- Ensure curriculum delivery meets learner needs and employer expectations
- Drive continuous improvement across teaching, learning and assessment
- Support curriculum planning, delivery models and programme development
- Quality Assurance & Improvement
- Lead on quality assurance processes across the vocational provision
- Monitor and evaluate teaching, learning and assessment standards
- Identify areas for improvement and implement effective action plans
- Ensure delivery aligns with quality frameworks, targets and performance indicators
- Staff Management & Development
- Support, coach and develop tutors to improve performance and learner outcomes
- Promote innovative and engaging teaching practices
- Monitor tutor performance and contribute to appraisals and development plans
- Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing team environment
- Performance & Delivery
- Support achievement of key performance targets and contract KPIs
- Monitor learner outcomes including retention, achievement and progression
- Ensure an effective and consistent learner experience across provision
- Report on performance and support continuous improvement initiatives
Essential Criteria
- Relevant degree or professional/vocational qualification
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Significant teaching experience within vocational education
- Experience managing curriculum delivery and quality processes
- Experience leading or supporting teaching staff to improve performance
- Strong understanding of quality assurance frameworks and performance targets
- Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within a custodial or secure education environment
- Previous experience in a curriculum leadership or management role
- Experience managing change and driving curriculum innovation
- Knowledge of employer engagement and labour market requirements
