Location: Field-based covering London, Home Counties, Hampshire and West Sussex

Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 DOE

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, plus overtime

A leading provider of critical power solutions is looking for an experienced Generator Controls Engineer to support planned works, upgrades, commissioning and technical projects across a range of generator and power generation sites. This is a field-based role suited to an engineer with strong electrical knowledge, hands-on generator experience and the confidence to work as the lead engineer on site. The role will involve regular travel across the South East, with occasional overnight stays depending on project requirements.

The Role

As Project Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering maintenance-related project works across generator and critical power systems. You will attend site as the principal engineer, carrying out upgrades, installations, fault finding, surveys, commissioning and technical support. You will work closely with internal project, technical, workshop and maintenance teams to ensure works are completed safely, professionally and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend customer sites as the lead engineer for maintenance projects
  • Complete controller and panel upgrades
  • Carry out generator fault finding across a range of engines, controllers and models
  • Complete site surveys and provide clear technical feedback
  • Support office teams, workshop teams and field maintenance engineers with technical queries
  • Manage and complete maintenance project works on site
  • Assist with RAMS documentation
  • Carry out commissioning works
  • Maintain strong customer communication throughout each project

Skills and Experience Required

  • Strong practical electrical engineering knowledge
  • Experience working on LV power generation and distribution systems
  • Good understanding of generator control systems such as ComAp, Deep Sea or similar
  • Experience with engine analysis and control software such as ComAp PC Suite, DSE Configuration Suite or similar
  • Experience with multi-set and synchronising controls
  • PLC programming skills
  • Strong fault-finding ability across generators, controllers and associated systems
  • Confident working independently and managing your own workload
  • Happy with regular travel, high mileage and occasional working away

Qualifications

  • 18th Edition
  • Gas Safe qualification
  • CSCS card
  • Mechanical or electrical engineering qualification
  • CAD experience
  • IT or broadband network knowledge
  • Knowledge of BMS protocol languages such as Modbus, Profibus or BACnet
