We are working with a leading UK renewable energy business that delivers commercial and industrial solar projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Solar Operations Manager to support the delivery, performance and day-to-day management of their operations team. This is a key role for someone with a strong background in operations management, within renewable energy, solar PV, HV electrical, or wider electrical infrastructure.
The Role
The Solar Operations Manager will oversee the successful delivery of solar PV projects and operational activity across multiple sites. You will be responsible for coordinating teams, managing subcontractors, supporting project delivery, ensuring compliance, implementing systems and maintaining high standards across health, safety, quality and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operational delivery across solar PV projects
- Coordinate internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers and key stakeholders
- Support project planning, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover
- Monitor project progress, risks, milestones and critical paths
- Ensure works are delivered safely, on time and within budget
- Review subcontractor quotations, purchase orders and project variations
- Support DNO applications and grid connection processes, including G98/G99
- Ensure compliance with planning, building control, MCS and BS 7671 requirements
- Lead site meetings, client progress meetings and operational reviews
- Maintain strong client relationships and manage expectations professionally
- Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015
- Review RAMS and support site inspections, audits and practical completions
- Report operational and financial performance to senior management
Requirements
- Proven background in operations management
- Experience within renewable energy, solar PV, HV electrical, or electrical infrastructure
- Strong understanding of UK commercial solar PV projects
- Experience managing subcontractors, site teams and multi-site operations
- Good understanding of DNO processes and grid connections, including G98/G99
- Strong commercial awareness and cost control experience
- Confident using Excel, MS Project or other project management tools
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- SMSTS, IOSH or NEBOSH
- Electrical background, with hands on electrical qualifications advantageous
- Experience with battery storage or EV charging projects
- Degree or technical qualification in engineering, construction management or a related field
