A brand-new, purpose-built mortuary facility opened in Aberdeen in December, combining modern hospital and forensic mortuary services. This state-of-the-art environment includes newly installed CT imaging capability, advanced post-mortem rooms, and improved spaces for teaching, training, and multi-agency collaboration. We are now seeking skilled Anatomical Pathology Technicians or Mortuary Technicians to join this exciting and modern service.

As an Anatomical Pathology Technician, you will support all aspects of post-mortem activity and contribute to the smooth, respectful, and compliant running of the mortuary. This role is well-suited to a professional Mortuary Technician who is confident working in both hospital and forensic settings.

Key Anatomical Pathology Technician Responsibilities:
  • Assisting with hospital and forensic post-mortem examinations
  • Providing compassionate, dignified care and handling of the deceased
  • Supporting CT imaging processes within the mortuary
  • Maintaining accurate documentation, ID procedures, and HTA compliance
  • Preparing post-mortem rooms and equipment daily
  • Liaising with pathologists, police, coroner’s/Procurator Fiscal teams
  • Supporting viewings and interactions with bereaved families
  • Participating in a potential on-call rota
Anatomical Pathology Technician Requirements

To succeed as an Anatomical Pathology Technician or Mortuary Technician, you will bring professionalism, emotional resilience, and a strong commitment to best practice in mortuary care.

Essential Requirements:
  • Member of the AAPT
  • APT Diploma Level 3 or Level 4 (or working towards)
  • Experience working as an Anatomical Pathology Technician / Mortuary Technician
  • Knowledge of HTA standards and good mortuary governance
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively as part of a team
