Role Overview

We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Domestic Abuse Helpline Officer to support male victims of domestic abuse.

In this role, you will provide crucial support and guidance to callers, assess their needs, offer advice and referrals, and maintain a calm, confidential, and non‑judgmental approach.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality and build trust with callers.
  • Ensure accurate record‑keeping and follow‑up support where necessary.
  • Assess the needs of callers and provide crisis intervention to prevent escalation.
  • Offer guidance, emotional support, and information on available resources.
  • Provide sign‑posting to relevant sources of support, including homelessness, drug and alcohol services.
  • Support individuals with life skills to better manage finances.
  • Complete DASH risk assessments and work with the MARAC process.
  • Refer cases into MARAC and update domestic abuse staff.
  • Work across all refuge sites and maintain a flexible service schedule.
  • Prepare callers for their own homes and conduct safety risk assessments.
  • Compete with good organisational and basic ICT skills; keep IT and data systems updated.
  • Collaborate with team members while also being able to work independently.
  • Operate in a person‑centred, professional manner, upholding the organisation’s values.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant experience in domestic abuse support or crisis helplines.
  • Awareness of domestic violence and abuse issues.
  • Knowledge of MARAC protocols and safeguarding arrangements.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Commitment to supporting individuals affected by domestic abuse.
  • Valid right to work in the UK; a valid passport will be verified at interview.
  • Successful disclosure at an appropriate level from Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
