We are looking to recruit a Domestic Abuse Long-Term Accommodation Female Support Worker on a full-time basis, for our Domestic Abuses Service in Birmingham. The role is permanent with the opportunity of working 37.5 hours a week.

About You

We are looking for a DALT Female Support Worker who is empathic, highly motivated, energetic, and an experienced individual to join our diverse staff team to deliver a quality service provision to vulnerable adults and their children. You will have worked in a refuge or support setting and be able to demonstrate this. You will be responsible for looking after service users and supporting them with their daily requirements and the day-to-day running of the commissioned services and building functions.

You will have sound knowledge and understanding of Domestic Violence and Abuse and the impact on the customer and their children. Good knowledge and understanding of how to apply for Universal Credit, housing applications, support women with no recourse to public funds, work with professionals if a woman is applying for her indefinite leave to remain, able to access languages for those with language barriers and support with applying for grants once a customer is ready to move on. Familiar with other Services in the Birmingham area which can provide additional support for your customer, and you must be able to communicate and advocate effectively with other professionals on behalf of your customer.

Deliver a ‘whole family approach’ to the individuals, families and children that access our commissioned services, this will enable work with both the family unit and children affected by domestic abuse (individually and in groups), support during pregnancy, an early help focus, healthy relationship work, links to local schools, Children’s Trust, CAFCASS etc. Support individuals with life skills, to better manage their finances by reducing debt and increasing income. Signpost customers to relevant sources of support, for additional guidance and advice. Provide crisis intervention where necessary to prevent customer situations escalating. Be fully aware of any issues that may affect customer well-being e.g. homelessness, domestic abuse, drug, and alcohol addiction. Provide a flexible service and where necessary work across all refuge sites. Always operate in a person-centred and professional manner. Work with customers to prepare them for their own homes and risk assess for any safety measures that will need to be in place. Competent in use of IT and DATA Systems, keeping files updated. Work on a rotated Helpline to take referrals coming into refuge and complete DASH Risk Assessment – must have good knowledge of MARAC protocols and Safeguarding arrangements.
