Are you passionate about HSE? Tricel are looking for a HSE Advisor to join our team. Located at our manufacturing facility in Weston super mare, this role will report directly into the HSE Manager. Responsible for leading, directing and delivering all activity in relation to HSE across the site, this role will lead the development and progress of a positive Health and Safety culture on site, including compliance with standards, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities
- Maintain an effective Health and Safety Management & Environmental System for the site and lead associated programmes and initiatives that improve the Health and Safety outcomes in alignment with the companies’ objectives and strategic plan to gain ISO45001 certification.
- Represent the Company when required during outside Agency Audits/Inspections in relation to HSE matters including reporting, auditing and ensuring recommendations and guidelines are fully complied with.
- Conduct regular monitoring and review of the working areas to establish, maintain and improve behavioural safety measures and safe practices.
- Act as a subject matter expert for HSE matters – complete thorough investigation, root cause analysis and CAPA for all significant incidents, reportable accidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and major property damage ensuring appropriate recording, corrective action and statutory reporting occurs in a timely and efficient manner via defined methods, and that any supporting documentation is completed promptly.
- Reporting of site H&S metrics & delivering on key targets, whilst utilising information to identify trends & take necessary action.
- Support the HSE manager in establishing & implementing the HSE audit programme to evaluate the effectiveness of systems and procedures (conduct internal audits, compliance audits and workplace inspections to evaluate compliance and effectiveness ensuring records are retained and action plans created to address findings etc).
- Conduct and implement programs relating to risk assessments (COSHH, HAVs, assessment trackers, new equipment and engineering requirements etc) & ensure effective control measures are identified and implemented.
- Support the HSE manager in the design & implementation of effective H&S training programs based on legislative requirements.
- Ensure that there is H&S involvement in pre-start up safety reviews and equipment walk-downs to identify relevant safety items.
- Establish the site Health and Safety committee and the sites HSE supervisor meeting.
- Chair and take lead of the Site’s H&S Meetings and direct and co-ordinate its members as necessary.
- Maintain awareness of evolving industry HSE regulations and best practice and how they could be applied to the Company’s operations.
- Liaise with the Management Team to identify & provide advice on health and safety practices that will reduce risk to employees’ health & encourage health promotion.
- Manage the occupational health and safety related surveys e.g. noise, exposure to chemical substances and make associated commercial recommendations, that benefit the business now and in the future.
- Establish, monitor, evaluate & maintain an effective documentation and recording system for all health and safety & environmental related needs for the site.
- In conjunction with the Site Management Teams ensure H&S and Environmental training needs are identified & proactively managed for both employees and contractors coming on sites.
- Participate in project planning and execution to ensure the health and safety dimension of site projects is fully considered at planning stage and changes are planned and implemented appropriately.
- Delivery of new starter HSE induction, briefings and toolbox talks.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Candidate Profile
- Background in health and safety ideally in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- 2+ years post qualification experience.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (essential).
- H&S Professional membership (desirable).
- Internal audit qualifications (desirable).
- H&S Diploma (advantageous).
- H&S Degree (advantageous).
- IEMA certificate in Environmental management (advantageous).
- Strong communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Organized, energetic and self-motivated.
- Demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative without immediate hands-on support.
- Ability to identify continuous improvement initiatives and ability to challenge status quo.
- Persuasive & Assertive.
- Ability to work under own initiative and at times unsupervised.
- A high level of analytical, methodology and time management skills required.
- A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point and other common software tools.
