The Opportunity

We're partnering with an ambitious independent agency looking to appoint a Paid Media Director to lead the strategic direction, performance and growth of a portfolio of retail and ecommerce clients. This is an opportunity for an experienced paid media specialist to step into a senior leadership role, combining client strategy, team leadership and commercial responsibility. You'll work closely with agency leadership to shape client growth strategies, develop the paid media offering and drive exceptional results across a range of established and challenger brands.

The Role

As Paid Media Director, you will be responsible for leading the agency's paid media function, overseeing campaign performance, client relationships and team development. You will act as the senior strategic lead across a portfolio of retail and ecommerce accounts, ensuring campaigns deliver against commercial objectives while identifying opportunities for growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the paid media strategy for a portfolio of retail and ecommerce clients.
  • Act as senior client lead, building trusted relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Oversee the planning, execution and optimisation of multi-channel paid media campaigns.
  • Drive performance across Paid Search, Paid Social, Shopping and other digital acquisition channels.
  • Develop full-funnel customer acquisition and growth strategies.
  • Analyse campaign performance and translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to increase client investment, improve efficiency and deliver incremental growth.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of paid media specialists.
  • Ensure best practice across campaign management, reporting and measurement.
  • Work closely with creative, analytics and client services teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support new business pitches and contribute to agency growth initiatives.
  • Manage budgets, forecasting and commercial performance across client accounts.

Candidate Profile

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience in paid media within an agency environment.
  • Proven success managing retail and ecommerce clients.
  • Strong expertise across Google Ads, Meta and retail-focused performance marketing.
  • Experience leading client strategy and presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial understanding of customer acquisition, ROAS, profitability and growth.
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on performance oversight.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Google Shopping, Performance Max and feed-based marketing.
  • Knowledge of attribution, measurement and analytics platforms.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Ads, TikTok, Pinterest or other emerging channels.
  • Experience contributing to agency growth, new business or service development.
  • Exposure to CRM, lifecycle marketing or conversion rate optimisation strategies.
