We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join a small team of Sport Development Officers to improve lives by inspiring active living to enrich physical and mental well-being of the communities of East Lothian. Interviews will commence from the week beginning 2nd February 2026.
Key Tasks
- Increase participation by developing and expanding the Enjoy Leisure recreational sports programmes.
- Ensure there is a range of activities, competitions and events delivered across East Lothian.
- Support the development of an adult sports programme across East Lothian.
- Ensure there are appropriate sessions available across sports for those with additional support needs.
- Support Active Schools with the development of an after school sports club for children with additional support needs, including coaching some of these sessions.
- Organise and coordinate the annual cross country and county sports events for both primary and secondary schools in East Lothian.
- Ensuring all activities are carried out with due regard for the Health and Safety of customers, staff and self in accordance with the Enjoy Leisure Health and Safety Policy.
- Coach sessions where appropriate.
- Design, implement and support the delivery of holiday programmes throughout the year.
- Be actively involved in coach recruitment and retention.
- Organise and facilitate opportunities for coach/volunteer development workshops.
- Provide regular CPD opportunities for Enjoy Leisure staff members.
- Provide ongoing mentoring and support for existing Enjoy Leisure coaches.
- Support the growth and development of local sports clubs and ensure there are strong links and pathways between clubs and schools/Active Schools and the Enjoy Leisure recreational programmes.
- Work in partnership with Active Schools to support and develop sports programmes and opportunities.
- Ensure continual communication with partners and actively engage with new partners to develop new sports, new participants and sporting pathways.
- Record baseline data on participation/activity/movement/income and school-club participation.
- Act as a central point of contact for sports related queries.
- Submit monthly reports to update wider team on projects and initiatives.
- Assist in the effective promotion of the opportunities available across the county.
- Other such duties as appropriate to the grading of the post as required by the Chief Executive of Enjoy Leisure.

- Coaching Qualification (in any sport).
- Experience of initiating, developing and evaluating projects.
- Knowledge and understanding of sports development pathways.
- Experience of working effectively with partners.
- Experience of working within volunteer run clubs.
- Ability to work as a team and individually.
- IT Literate.
- Ability to build effective working relationships.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise competing deadlines and projects.
- Ability to undertake flexible working hours.
- PVG membership for Vulnerable Adults and Children is an essential requirement of this post.
- Willingness to undertake continuous professional development.
- Relevant college or university qualification.

- Knowledge of national sporting/physical activity initiatives & strategies.
- Experience of working with underrepresented groups.

£14.45 per hour, 35 hours across Monday-Friday, including occasional weekend and evening work.
