St Leonards School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Head of Girls’ Games to join our Sports Department. This is a residential role and an exciting opportunity to shape and lead girls’ sport within a thriving independent boarding and day school environment.

St Leonards School is a co-educational boarding and day school located in the historic town of St Andrews, Scotland. The School is recognised for its commitment to academic excellence, holistic education and a vibrant co-curricular programme, supported by excellent sporting facilities and a strong sporting tradition.

The Head of Girls’ Games will work closely with the Director of Sport and Heads of Sport to lead and coordinate Hockey, Netball and Athletics across the Senior School. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a positive, ambitious and inclusive sporting programme for girls across all age groups.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and promoting girls’ sport within the School community
  • Delivering and coordinating Hockey, Netball and Athletics sessions across Senior and Junior School sport
  • Acting as lead technical coach for Hockey or Netball during the relevant season
  • Creating and communicating session plans for games groups
  • Supporting team selection and programme planning from U13 to 1st XI level
  • Organising tournaments, fixtures and sports tours within the UK and overseas
  • Coordinating and supporting coaching staff and visiting coaches
  • Communicating effectively with parents, pupils and staff
  • Publishing results and promoting sporting achievements through school communication channels
  • Supporting the wider operational delivery of the sports programme and events calendar

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Experience coaching or playing Hockey or Netball to a high standard
  • Relevant coaching and umpiring qualifications
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • A strong understanding of child development and player progression
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic sports department
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach to school sport and pupil development
  • Experience working within schools or youth sport settings would be advantageous.
