Reporting to: Lead Academy Physiotherapist, Academy Director

Key Relationships: Lead Academy Coaches, Academy Coaches, All Academy Staff, Players & Parents

Purpose: Provide physiotherapy/sports therapy cover and treatment at matches and training as required.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Be a registered physiotherapist with a current licence to practice.
  • Hold appropriate professional indemnity.
  • Have proof of clearance from the relevant disclosure and barring service, primary care trust or equivalent organisation.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with all relevant company policies and legislation including but not exclusively the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Club’s Code of Conduct.
  • Attend select match-days (agreed in advance) to provide medical cover for any in-game injuries.
  • Keep accurate, secure, and up to date records.
  • Effectively communicate with the coaching staff regarding player injuries and fitness status.
  • Attend training, development sessions, and/or medical meetings as required by senior management.
  • Report to the Head of Medical & Performance when required.
  • Ensure that on matchdays best practice, safeguarding and effective medical procedures are in place.
  • Continuously look to identify opportunities to improve operations and practices on matchdays both in the short and long term.
  • Act always with utmost good faith to the Club and its employees, and players.
  • Devote full attention and ability to fulfil the duties required by the role on the days on which you provide your services.
  • To maintain the quality-of-service provision, regularly evaluating work and seeking to make improvements.
  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of all children within the academy.
  • To be vigilant and support all safety and security operations within the academy.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Registered Physiotherapist/Sports Therapist with current license to practice.
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain a current pitch-side first aid certificate issued by recognised body.
  • HCPC registered or Society of Sports Therapist registered.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Committed to working evenings and weekends including training sessions, fixtures, and in-service training.
  • Excellent communication skills specific to the age and stage of players and other relevant partners (e.g., parents, academy staff).
  • Ability to relate to and understand young people, demonstrating personality and enthusiasm.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • PVG check to be completed before appointment.
  • Further education in relevant field (e.g., degree, honours, additional courses).
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health course or equivalent.
  • Additional skill set that can enhance other areas of the academy/club.
