Reports to: Head of Medical/ Academy Director
Role Purpose
To provide a high-quality physiotherapy service to First Team and Academy squads, ensuring players receive evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and injury prevention support to maximise availability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for First Team players, and full-time Academy players, as required.
- Develop and deliver individual rehabilitation programmes to support safe return to training and competition.
- Provide pitch-side medical cover at all First Team home matches and other First Team or Academy fixtures as required.
- Liaise with the Head of Medical, Club Doctor and performance staff regarding injuries, treatment plans, referrals and return-to-play decisions.
- Maintain accurate, confidential electronic medical records in line with professional and data protection standards.
- Assist with pre-signing medicals, health screenings and player monitoring.
- Maintain physiotherapy equipment and medical supplies to the required standard.
- Contribute to the continuous development of medical services, including injury prevention strategies and departmental best practice.
- Accompany players to specialist medical appointments where appropriate and communicate outcomes to relevant staff.
- Ensure effective communication with players, coaches and senior management regarding injury management and player availability.
- Will have to work a couple of evenings when requested to do so.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the Head of Medical/ Head of Academy.
Qualifications
- BSc in Physiotherapy.
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
- Experience working in elite or professional sport, preferably football.
- Up-to-date SportPromote/ATMMiF (or willingness to obtain at earliest opportunity).
- Excellent clinical reasoning, assessment and rehabilitation skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to improve as a practitioner.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and matchdays as required.
- Previous experience within a professional football environment.
- MSc or postgraduate qualification in Physiotherapy/ Sports Physiotherapy or a related discipline.
- Experience using athlete management and medical record systems.
