Exclusive to Trial Balance Consulting. Ever dreamt of building your own grand design? Let’s imagine you’ve secured a great plot in a truly beautiful location, you’ve found an amazing team of architects and builders to work with you and support your ideas. Now it’s down to you to design and project manage every detail of the build. Sounds great. Even better, let’s say your plot is so vast that you’ve got the potential to build your house even bigger as you come up with new ideas and plans over the coming years.

This is the vocational equivalent of a ground-up grand design. A career opportunity that looks great in its current form, but with potential to develop into something completely out of this world. Trial Balance Consulting have been exclusively engaged by a new client, a business that has grown at an extraordinary speed and shows no sign of slowing down. With a head count approaching 70 staff, it now turns over in excess of £7M in the UK alone. It’s time for them to bring in a dedicated Finance Director, a brand new position with the company and one where the successful candidate will assume a position of pivotal responsibility.

Operating in a niche and highly lucrative sector, our client’s brand is becoming somewhat iconic and will be recognisable by many. Headed up by a young, energetic and extremely entrepreneurial board of directors, this is no ordinary FD role. It’s an opportunity to shape and develop a seriously efficient finance function from the ground up and designed to facilitate accelerated growth on a global scale. The role has the potential to be a career game changer.

This will be an interesting, rewarding and diverse opportunity, well suited to a forward thinking and experienced FD who can manage the operational and strategic needs of the business. Supporting a small but highly experienced finance team, the Finance Director will work closely with the tier one senior management team and assume the lead role in delivering interdepartmental key financial performance data and educating SMT on key performance indicators.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and vision across all areas of a group of entities and accompanying digital accounting systems
  • Oversee and develop an ambitious team of three who currently focus on transactional accounting tasks and management reporting
  • Prepare and share (with full commentary), detailed management information reports
  • Annual budget setting
  • Assume a lead role in costing and forecasting for all entities of the business and future projects
  • Monitor, in liaison with external consultants, the tax position of all business entities
  • Identify opportunities and implement changes to improve the streamlining of accounting processes
  • VAT/Tax reporting and compliance
  • All aspects of fixed asset management
  • Act as a primary source of contact and develop close working relationships with key external stakeholders; banks, Chartered Accountants, major suppliers and customers etc.

What we’re looking for:

Almost certainly a professionally qualified individual (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), with experience gained in a number 1 or 2 capacity in a business operating at or above audit threshold. The real key here is sourcing a candidate with a natural talent to make things happen, make things bigger and better, and without the need to have their hand held at every step of the way. It’s an incredible opportunity for a genuinely ambitious and motivated individual, either operating at FD level right now, or feeling like they’re ready for a challenge at an altogether different level.

The existing finance team are keen to develop their own skills so a manager with strong mentoring skills would fit well. The successful candidate may come from any industry sector but should have exceptional commercial acumen and a good aptitude for promoting and developing business enhancing digital accounting platforms. The role works with colleagues across all areas of the business and the successful FD will be a recognised face with an ability to lead and influence department managers on effective financial controls.

Interested? Great, but you don’t have long to think about applying; our client wants a small shortlist of exceptional candidates without delay. Please apply to Jay Vilarrubi-Smith or Alex Callister or Steve Roach quoting reference JVS10567 for an informal and entirely confidential chat.
