Trial Balance Consulting have been engaged by a well‑established and expanding retail/distribution business that takes recruitment seriously. They are seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join their finance team. This is a permanent, full‑time opportunity based in Saltash, offering a hybrid working arrangement following successful completion of probation. The role works closely alongside an experienced Financial Controller and forms part of a collaborative finance team. This will be a broad and hands‑on position where the successful candidate will support the smooth running of the finance function, with key involvement in management reporting, payroll, compliance and commercial finance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing monthly payroll across multiple entities
- Managing payroll related payments, pensions and employee queries
- Calculating sales commissions and bonus payments
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns across multiple registrations
- Weekly bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
- Assisting with the production of monthly management accounts
- Reconciling key balance sheet accounts including accruals and prepayments
- Supporting budget reviews, forecasting and cost control
- Assisting with year‑end statutory accounts and external audit preparation
- Providing purchase ledger support when required
- Supporting ongoing finance projects, process improvements and business growth initiatives
Qualifications
For this role, we seek an organised and motivated finance professional with previous experience in a similar capacity. Candidates should ideally hold an AAT qualification (or equivalent), with applicants studying towards ACCA/CIMA also of particular interest. Study support can be offered. Strong MS Excel skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities will be essential. The role liaises with stakeholders across the business, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are equally important.
