Tax Manager - Exeter + Hybrid - £50,000 - £60,000

Trial Balance are delighted to be working with a successful accountancy practice, with multiple offices in the region, in their search for an experienced Tax Manager to join their Exeter office. Hybrid and flexible working are available, and the role offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of compliance and advisory assignments whilst developing your own career and supporting the wider tax team.

This could be an excellent next step for a high-performing Tax Senior looking to progress, an experienced Assistant Tax Manager ready for greater responsibility, or an established Tax Manager looking for a broader and more technically varied role.

As Tax Manager, your responsibilities will include:

• Managing a varied portfolio of tax clients and acting as a key point of contact for ongoing compliance and advisory matters
• Delivering a broad range of personal and business tax compliance work, ensuring assignments are accurate, timely and completed within budget
• Reviewing tax returns and dealing with more complex tax computations and technical matters
• Providing practical tax planning advice and supporting clients with their wider tax requirements
• Supporting clients with specialist matters including non-resident individuals, trusts and probate work
• Identifying potential tax risks and ensuring appropriate action is taken in line with current legislation
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the tax team
• Assisting with the management and development of tax compliance processes within the Exeter office
• Working closely with Partners and senior colleagues to support the continued growth and financial performance of the tax function

The successful Tax Manager will:

Have strong previous experience gained within a tax or accountancy practice environment, ideally at Tax Manager, Assistant Tax Manager or experienced Tax Senior level.

ATT and/or CTA qualification would be preferred, alongside strong technical knowledge across both tax compliance and advisory work. Experience involving non-resident individuals, trusts or probate would be advantageous.

You’ll be confident reviewing complex work, dealing directly with clients and providing clear advice on technical tax matters. Strong organisation, commercial awareness and the ability to manage competing priorities will all be important, as will a proactive and professional approach.
