Job Introduction

Make a real difference every day

If you want a job where you can go home knowing you have genuinely made a difference, this is it. Working in employability is hard to describe to anyone outside the sector, but the simplest way to say it is this: you get the chance to help people rebuild confidence, overcome barriers and change their lives for the better. It is meaningful, rewarding, human work and for many of us, it is the best job we have ever had.

At Triage, we don't just deliver employability and training programmes. We help people build confidence, develop skills, overcome barriers, and take meaningful steps towards employment and independence.

We're looking for an Employment Mentor to support young people aged 18-24 into employment by managing a caseload of participants and securing funded six-month placements with local employers. You'll take the time to understand each individual's goals and strengths, helping them build confidence, develop their skills, and access opportunities that support their journey into long-term employment.

This role combines participant support with proactive employer engagement. Rather than relying only on existing vacancies, you'll work with employers to create opportunities that enable young people to demonstrate their potential in the workplace. By building strong partnerships with local businesses, you'll help open doors for individuals who may not yet have the experience, confidence or interview skills to succeed through traditional recruitment routes, giving them the chance to prove what they can achieve.

Why Join Triage?

We believe great work starts with great people, so we make sure our colleagues feel supported, valued and empowered to succeed.

Benefits include:

  • Birthday off every year
  • Additional annual leave for length of service
  • Two paid volunteering days annually
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Discounts, rewards and wellbeing support
  • Pension and life assurance
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Ongoing learning and development
  • Career progression opportunities

Your development matters to us

At Triage, we don't just offer jobs. We build careers. We're committed to developing our people through training, coaching, mentoring and opportunities to grow within the organisation. Many of our colleagues have progressed into new roles, gained qualifications, and expanded their skills whilst making a positive difference to the lives of others.

You'll become part of a team that:

• Supports and encourages one another

• Shares ideas and bestpractice

• Celebrates success together

• Lives our values every day

About the role:

As an Employment Mentor you will work with participants one-to-one, helping them prepare for work, build confidence, develop employment skills, prepare for interviews/placements and settle into employment. You will also work with employers, Jobcentre teams and partner organisations to create opportunities and make sure people get the right support at the right time.

You'll support participants from a variety of backgrounds, tailoring your approach to meet individual needs and helping them overcome barriers that may be preventing them from reaching their potential.

No two days are the same, but every day offers the chance to change a life.

What you’ll bring:

We’re looking for someone who is:

• A natural communicator who can build trust quickly.

• Positive, resilient and motivated by helping others succeed.

• Organised, self-motivated and comfortable working towards targets.

• Able to support people with a range of personal barriers.

• Confident enough to encourage, coach and positively challenge.

• Experienced in guidance, training, education, employability or another people-focused role.

What we're looking for:

We're looking for someone with the right attitude as much as the right experience.

Essential Skills & Experience

•Experience of working in a target-driven environment and achieving agreed performance outcomes

• Experience of supporting individuals to achieve employment, training, education or personal development goals

•Experience of managing a caseload of individuals and developing personalised action plans to support individuals towards sustainable employment

• Experience of supporting individuals with multiple and complex barriers to employment

• Ability to build effective and professional relationships with participants, employers, referral partners and external stakeholders

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles to meet individual needs

• Strong coaching, mentoring and motivational skills, with the ability to positively challenge and encourage progression

• Ability to identify participants' strengths, transferable skills and development needs and translate these into realistic employment goals

• Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines

• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and the ability to accurately maintain participant records and management information systems

• Understanding of local labour market opportunities, recruitment practices and employability support services

• Ability to work independently whilst contributing positively to team and organisational objectives

• Ability to work within a performance and target-driven environment whilst maintaining a high-quality participant experience

• Flexible, resilient and adaptable with a commitment to supporting people to achieve their full potential.

• Committed to delivering high-quality outcomes and excellent customer service.

• Able to work independently whilst contributing positively to a team environment.
