Senior Interaction Designer £45,000 – £54,000 + Fantastic Pension Newport – 1 day a week Please note to be considered for this role you MUST have been in the UK for the last 5 years. This role has a 20% time on site minimum requirement. A forward thinking organisation is seeking a Senior Interaction Designer to help shape the future of thier public facing digital services. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in user-centred design, agile working, and a passion for building accessible, effective services that meet user needs. About the Role As a Senior Interaction Designer, you\’ll work in agile, multi-disciplinary teams on complex service transformation programmes. You\’ll collaborate closely with service managers, programme directors, and user researchers to design seamless, user-friendly services across a variety of channels, devices, and technologies. You\’ll play a key role in shaping user journeys, prototyping new ideas, and ensuring that design decisions are backed by research, evidence, and data. You\’ll also work to uphold and promote high standards in user experience and accessibility, ensuring services are inclusive and meet both user and business goals. Key Responsibilities Design and develop intuitive, user-centred services across digital and non-digital touch points. Participate in user research, develop prototypes, and iterate designs based on user feedback. Apply and contribute to the Design System and wider government design standards. Ensure designs meet accessibility, legal, and security requirements. Promote consistent and high-quality design practices across the organisation and government community. Provide leadership, mentoring, and support to interaction designers, helping to grow the capability of the profession. Contribute to the development of user-centred design guidance and reusable patterns. Person Specification We\’re looking for someone who can demonstrate the following: Experience working in agile, multi-disciplinary teams, delivering iterative design as part of service development. Proven ability to design accessible services and create key design artefacts such as user flows, service blueprints, and site maps. Strong prototyping skills using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or the Prototype Kit. Experience conducting usability testing and applying research insights to inform design. Familiarity with the Service Manual, and experience contributing to or evolving design patterns. Confidence in leading design discussions and representing user-centred design in cross-functional teams. Experience coaching and mentoring designers, and supporting communities of practice.
