Are you a digital engineering leader with a background spanning materials management, batch pedigree, or environmental compliance? This is a chance to own and shape the Material Management and Product Environmental digital capability for a major aerospace and defence programme, from architecture through to adoption. You'll be joining at the start. The first six months are about establishing the capability team, building the roadmap, and setting direction for how materials data, process specifications, and environmental compliance information work across the programme.

The Role

  • Own delivery and continuous improvement of digital capabilities covering materials databases and allowables, process specifications, batch pedigree and traceability, and environmental compliance datasets (REACH, RoHS, PFAS, conflict minerals).
  • Define reference architectures and technical baselines for materials and environmental digital solutions.
  • Translate engineering and business needs into a prioritised backlog and delivery roadmap.
  • Ensure end-to-end traceability from requirements through material selection, process records, test data and compliance evidence.
  • Manage vendor relationships and lead technology evaluations for materials databases, specification management and compliance reporting tools.
  • Coordinate delivery across internal teams and suppliers, owning incident resolution and continuous service improvement.
  • Support governance, data standards and audit requirements for materials and environmental evidence pathways.

What We're Looking For

Must-have:

  • 10+ years delivering digital engineering capabilities for Material Management and Product Environmental disciplines (materials databases and allowables, process specifications, batch pedigree, nonconformance management, environmental compliance reporting).
  • 10+ years in aerospace and/or defence programmes, with understanding of regulatory, airworthiness and environmental compliance frameworks.
  • Strong grasp of model-based engineering and digital thread principles.
  • Experience managing multi-partner and supplier integration in complex programmes.
  • Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
  • ITIL or equivalent service management experience.
  • APM, Prince2 or demonstrable complex delivery management experience.
  • Active SC clearance or eligibility.

Nice-to-have:

  • SAFe or similar Agile delivery experience.
  • Understanding of materials and environmental compliance practices, restricted substances management, corrosion and compatibility, sustainability and life cycle assessment.
  • Experience managing suppliers for materials databases, specification management or compliance reporting tools.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity in a fast-evolving delivery environment.
