We’re working with a leading consultancy on a critical public sector programme, and are looking for an experienced SQL Developer / Database Specialist to join on an initial 3‑month contract. This is a hands‑on role focused on high‑performance SQL development and database optimisation within a complex, enterprise‑scale data environment. You’ll play a key role in ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability across critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Tuning and optimising complex SQL queries at scale
- Designing and maintaining robust database architectures (OLTP / OLAP)
- Supporting a multi-layered ecosystem including SQL Server, IIS, and Elasticsearch
- Building and maintaining ETL pipelines and data integration processes
- Ensuring data integrity, security, and performance across systems
Experience Required
- Strong background in SQL Development / Database Engineering / DBA roles
- Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (T‑SQL)
- Advanced SQL skills including CTEs, joins, subqueries, and performance tuning
- Experience working with at least one additional RDBMS (e.g. PostgreSQL or MySQL)
- Proven ability to hit the ground running in fast‑paced, delivery‑focused environments
Nice to Have
- Elasticsearch
- Familiarity with performance tuning tools (e.g. Execution Plans, Profiler, Query Store)
