Infrastructure. Security. Ownership.

If you're the type of engineer who enjoys building, improving and securing technology rather than simply keeping the lights on, this could be the role you've been looking for.

We're working with an organisation investing heavily in its technology estate and looking for an experienced Operations & Security Engineer to play a key role in modernising infrastructure, strengthening security and delivering technical change across a Microsoft environment.

This isn't a BAU support position.

It's a hands-on project-focused role where you'll take ownership of technical workstreams, deliver infrastructure improvements and help shape a secure, resilient platform that supports the wider business.

Working as part of a small, collaborative internal technology team, you'll have the autonomy to make technical decisions, influence best practice and see your work make a genuine impact.

What you'll be doing

You'll split your time across infrastructure (around 60%) and security (40%), delivering projects that improve resilience, performance and cyber security.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Leading infrastructure implementation and improvement projects.
  • Managing and enhancing Microsoft Azure and on-premise infrastructure.
  • Administering Active Directory, Group Policy and virtualised environments.
  • Driving server lifecycle management and platform optimisation.
  • Delivering security improvements including Active Directory reviews and Group Policy hardening.
  • Supporting Cyber Essentials compliance and embedding security best practice.
  • Identifying opportunities to optimise Azure consumption and reduce cloud costs.
  • Producing high-quality technical documentation and following ITIL-aligned processes.
  • Supporting occasional out-of-hours releases and joining a future on-call rota.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership and can confidently deliver technical solutions with minimal supervision.

You'll ideally bring experience across

  • Microsoft infrastructure technologies.
  • Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • VMware/v Sphere.
  • Infrastructure implementation and project delivery.
  • Cyber Essentials and infrastructure security improvements.

Experience with the following would be advantageous

  • Power Shell scripting and automation.
  • Azure cost optimisation, Reserved Instances and resource governance.
  • NIST or ISO security frameworks.
  • Microsoft technical certifications.
  • The person

Technical capability is only part of the picture.

We're looking for someone who

  • Takes pride in delivering quality solutions.
  • Is naturally curious and enjoys learning new technologies.
  • Thinks commercially as well as technically.
  • Can own problems from start to finish.
  • Communicates confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively while being trusted to deliver independently.

Why apply?

This is an opportunity to join a business where technology is genuinely valued and where you'll have the freedom to make a real difference.

You'll work on meaningful infrastructure and security projects, have exposure to modern Microsoft technologies and be encouraged to continually develop your technical skills through ongoing learning and professional certifications.

If you're looking for a role where you can take ownership, deliver tangible improvements and help shape the future of a growing technology environment, we'd love to hear from you.

How to prepare for a job interview at TRIA

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
