Our client is a Global FTSE 250 organisation undergoing a major transformation under a new CIO. We are seeking an experienced DevOps & QA Engineering Lead to drive the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of DevOps and Quality Assurance practices across a complex digital and technology landscape. This is a people management role focused on increasing automation, improving software quality, and enhancing collaboration across engineering teams, while establishing best-in-class tooling and delivery practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy
- Define and implement the DevOps and QA strategy across the full software development lifecycle
- Communicate vision, standards, and best practices aligned to broader organisational goals
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of DevOps and QA engineers
- DevOps & Tooling
- Introduce, optimise, and manage modern DevOps tooling (CI/CD, version control, build automation, containerisation)
- Drive automation and efficiency across engineering and release processes
- Continuously improve DevOps maturity and ways of working
- Quality Assurance
- Develop and implement QA strategies, frameworks, and tooling
- Lead test automation initiatives, regression testing, and quality improvements
- Ensure high standards of software quality and reliability across deployments
- Stakeholder & Delivery Management
- Act as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders, aligning engineering capabilities with business needs
- Manage relationships with internal teams and external vendors
- Oversee delivery across multiple projects and ensure successful release and transition into live environments
- Team & Capability Development
- Lead performance management, coaching, and professional development of engineers
- Build organisational capability through mentoring and knowledge sharing
- Identify skills gaps and implement training and development plans
Required Experience
- 8+ years' experience in a DevOps, QA, or related engineering roles, including people management responsibilities
- Proven experience leading and line managing global technical teams
- Hands-on experience implementing and optimising DevOps tooling (e.g. Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines)
- Strong background in test automation and QA tooling
- Deep understanding of DevOps and QA frameworks, principles, and best practices
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
