We’re partnered with a fast-growing deep-tech company that’s just transitioned from being developer-led to building a proper in-house IT function - and this role sits right at the heart of that journey. Over the past year, they’ve brought everything in-house from an MSP, transformed their networking, moved from Google to M365, introduced VPNs and zero-trust networking, and laid the foundations to scale properly. Now, with Cyber Essentials underway and ISO27001 firmly on the roadmap, they’re ready to add their first dedicated IT Operations hire.
This is a genuinely varied, hands‑on role where you’ll take ownership of day‑to‑day IT operations and service desk activity, while also getting stuck into infrastructure improvements, new tooling, and projects as the business grows. You’ll be working closely with the IT Manager, freeing them up to focus on strategy - and positioning yourself as a key part of a newly forming IT department with plenty of room to grow.
What you’ll be doing:
- Owning internal IT support across Windows, Mac, and some Linux environments
- Managing service desk activity and improving response & resolution times
- Supporting M365, Entra ID, Intune, endpoint management, and SaaS tooling
- Getting hands‑on with networking (Wi‑Fi, firewalls, switching, VPNs)
- Supporting onboarding/offboarding and identity & access management
- Contributing to compliance initiatives (Cyber Essentials now, ISO27001 next)
- Helping shape processes, documentation, and how IT scales with the business
What they’re looking for:
- Strong Microsoft 365 and modern cloud‑first environments
- Comfort switching between tickets, projects, and incidents
- Exposure to networking fundamentals and endpoint management
- A proactive, calm approach in a fast‑paced scale‑up environment
- Someone ambitious who wants to grow with the role
Nice to have (but not essential):
- Awareness of ITIL or compliance frameworks
Why this role is interesting:
- First hire into a newly formed IT department
- Join at a genuine growth inflection point - headcount increasing significantly
- Work with highly technical teams on interesting infrastructure challenges
- Influence tooling, processes, and how IT is run as the business scales
- Clear progression as the team grows (future hires already planned)
If you’re a hands‑on IT engineer who enjoys variety, autonomy, and building things properly — this is a great opportunity to make a real impact.
