We are seeking an experienced Interim Director of Application Development to play a pivotal role in a major IT transformation programme for a FTSE 250 organisation. The business has ambitious growth plans and has completed a high-level IT maturity assessment, strategy and target operating model. The next critical step is to define the detailed end-state, articulate a credible transformation journey, and secure Board approval and investment to execute it.
As a core member of the IT Transformation leadership team, you will lead the Applications and Data workstream, shaping how the organisation’s applications, integration capabilities, data platforms, engineering toolchains and operational practices will operate in the future.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing clarity and transparency across the current applications and data estate, including integrations, ownership, usage and commercial arrangements
- Defining the target state and transformation roadmap covering application development and operations, integration, data platforms, decision intelligence and SDLC standards
- Designing a simplified, integrated and well-governed future estate aligned to a federated IT operating model, balancing central control with divisional ownership
- Working closely with architecture and delivery leaders to develop robust investment cases, costs, benefits and dependencies
- Engaging credibly with senior stakeholders to support executive and Board-level decision making
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leading enterprise-scale application and data transformations in complex organisations. You will be comfortable operating at executive and Board level, translating technical strategy into clear business outcomes, while retaining deep technical credibility across modern application architectures, cloud-native platforms, integration patterns, data and analytics ecosystems, and contemporary engineering and operational practices.
This interim role offers a high-profile opportunity to shape the future technology foundations of a growing FTSE 250 organisation.
