Job Description

Control Engineer
Home-Based
Circa Β£75,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus + 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays + Pension + Health Cash Plan

Excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to join an established and growing electricity distribution business in a home-based Control Engineer position.

This is an opportunity to put your practical network operations experience to use in a different environment, moving away from the demands of field-based work while retaining your technical credentials. You'll play a key role in the safe operation of electricity networks, supporting supply restoration, coordinating operational activities and helping maintain high standards of safety and compliance.

You'll join a business investing in its control function, with the opportunity to take ownership of operational processes and contribute to the development of procedures and working practices. With the opportunity to move away from day-to-day fieldwork, retain your existing technical credentials and work remotely, this is an attractive next step for someone looking to apply their experience in a different way without losing touch with the industry.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced SAP looking to move into a more operationally focused position, with the benefit of working from home and less time spent travelling to sites or carrying out hands-on switching.

The Role:

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of LV and HV electricity networks.
  • Coordinate network operations, including supply restoration, switching activities and fault response.
  • Work closely with contractors, ICPs, developers and other stakeholders to support operational requirements.
  • Oversee network activities and ensure appropriate safety procedures and documentation are in place.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, network logs and safety documentation.
  • Support the development and maintenance of operational procedures, safety rules and working practices.
  • Monitor network configuration and drawings, supporting the effective management of the network.
  • Provide guidance and support to operational teams and contribute to training and competency development.

The Person:

  • Holds Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation, with practical experience working as an SAP.
  • Experience working on 11kV electricity networks.
  • Experience of supply restoration, ideally involving network faults, switching and coordinating operational activities.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety rules, safety documentation and safe systems of work.
  • Confident communicating with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organised, methodical and comfortable taking responsibility for operational decisions.
  • Background within a DNO or IDNO would be advantageous, although candidates from ICPs, electrical contractors and other relevant electricity network environments will also be considered.
  • LV AP authorisation is not essential, as training can be provided.
