We are seeking an experienced Lead Sprint Test Engineer to provide technical leadership, people management, and quality advocacy across our sprint teams. This role is pivotal in ensuring high standards of software quality while enabling efficient and predictable delivery within an Agile environment. You will lead and mentor test engineers, shape testing strategy, and remain hands-on where required to support delivery.
Responsibilities
- People Leadership & Line Management: Provide effective line management through regular 1:1s, formal performance reviews, and ongoing coaching. Own career development, growth plans, and performance management for direct reports.
- Test Strategy, Planning & Delivery: Lead the planning, design, and execution of functional, regression, API, performance, and security testing activities. Ensure comprehensive test coverage and adherence to best practices across all sprint teams. Maintain accountability for quality standards without compromising delivery timelines.
- Resource & Capacity Planning: Partner closely with the CTPO to define project scope, forecast demand, allocate resources, and set realistic delivery goals and timelines.
- Agile & Scrum Engagement: Act as the quality ambassador within sprint teams, ensuring active participation in refinement, estimation, and sprint ceremonies. Promote collaboration between testers, developers, and product stakeholders.
- Hands-on Support: Remain technically engaged by contributing directly to testing activities where needed to support sprint delivery and team capacity.
- Quality & Continuous Improvement: Analyse testing metrics, trends, and outcomes to identify risks, root causes, and improvement opportunities. Define, refine, and enforce quality standards, testing practices, and tooling strategies to drive long-term improvements.
- Team Culture & Collaboration: Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Your Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience in software testing.
- Expert-level experience in test analysis, risk-based testing, and quality assurance within Agile delivery environments.
- Strong experience using Azure DevOps for test management.
- Proven experience leading people or managing a technical testing team or stream.
- Demonstrated ability to lead testing efforts collaboratively and influence stakeholders to prioritise quality.
- Strong experience in test planning, estimation, and resource forecasting.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a consistent focus on delivering high-quality software.
- Excellent communication, mediation, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary - £65,000 - £68,000
- Flexible, remote-first working. You will be able to enjoy all the benefits of working from home, with access to coworking spaces close to you if required (via Hubble membership).
