Oracle DBA needed for a 12 month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) in Oxford, with hybrid working (minimum 20% in office). We are recruiting for two Oracle DBA contractors to join a small, focused database team working on critical national digital infrastructure. This is a genuinely hands-on, specialist role, not a generalist 'cloud migration' position. The team is mid-way through a major registry standardisation and modernisation programme.
The role involves:
- Owning day-to-day administration, support and troubleshooting of on-premises Oracle RAC environments.
- Performing rolling patching across RAC clusters with minimal disruption.
- Administering multitenant (CDB/PDB) database environments.
- Taking direct responsibility for RMAN backup, restore and recovery, including recovery onto a new host.
- Supporting Data Guard configurations, including standby management and failover.
- Diagnosing and resolving production incidents, participating in an on-call rota once fully onboarded.
What you need:
- Genuine, recent, hands-on experience administering on-premises Oracle RAC in a production environment.
- Practical experience with RAC rolling patching in a live environment.
- Direct, recent experience with multitenant (CDB/PDB) architecture.
- Proven ownership of RMAN backup, restore and recovery processes, including restoring to a new host.
- Experience configuring and supporting Data Guard, including standby databases and failover scenarios.
- Comfortable being part of an on-call rota supporting production incidents.
Please note: this role requires specialist, current on-premises Oracle DBA depth rather than broad cloud or automation-focused experience. Candidates whose recent work has moved primarily into cloud migration, DevOps, or application-layer support may not be the right fit for this specific role.
