Hydro Group manufactures bespoke subsea cable and connector assembly engineering for the oil and gas, marine renewable energy and defence industries. We are certified to ISO 9001 and 14001:2015 to design and manufacture subsea electrical and optical connectors, electrical pressure hull penetrators, associated subsea electrical cable terminations, installation of electrical and optical connectors, specialist underwater and harsh environment electrical and optical composite cables, tethers and umbilicals. Our products are precision-engineered to withstand the harshest environmental conditions.

Objectives / Scope

  • Design and Modelling: Utilize Autodesk Inventor to create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings for mechanical components and systems.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop prototypes and conduct thorough testing to validate and refine designs.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Manage the entire product lifecycle, from concept and design to manufacturing and post-production support.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, designers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components within larger systems.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, contributing to the continuous improvement and innovation of our products.
  • Project Management: Take ownership of projects in collaboration with the wider business to track progress and development.

Main Responsibilities

  • Development and continual management of the Engineering process to ensure business and client requirements are met and understood:
  • Gather engineering and technical advice to all internal departments.
  • Contact and liaise with external companies for information on materials and technical data.
  • Review, monitor and improve the technical standards required of the Engineering department for procedures and practices adhering to quality standards, safety procedures, documentation protocols and performance metrics.
  • Perform checks on work for technical accuracy.
  • Identify and conduct risk assessments to potential challenges and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Establish project goals and timelines.
  • Interface with the wider business to provide engineering solutions and advice:
    • Produce clear and concise drawings and manufacturing information for build purposes and proposal drawings.
    • Produce documentation to support design verification, validation, and safety requirements.
    • Liaise with customers to advise and provide design solutions for their applications.
    • Ensure products have the support of upper management.
    • Participate in operations reviews, planning and strategy sessions with leadership and corporate teams.
  • Health, safety and environmental:
    • Report all accidents, incidents, near misses or unsafe situations to immediate line manager or member of the senior management team.
    • Work to the required procedures and processes to meet the company target of zero LTIs. This includes all on-site visitors, clients, and staff.
    • Comply with any environmental responsibilities as identified by the Group.

    Skills Base Qualifications:

    • A minimum 2:1 classification BEng or MEng in Mechanical or a related field.
    • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor/SolidWorks for 3D modelling and design.
    • Strong understanding of electro-mechanical engineering principles and materials.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
    • Familiarity with design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.
    • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
    • Previous internship or project experience related to mechanical design.
