Hydro Group manufactures bespoke subsea cable and connector assembly engineering for the oil and gas, marine renewable energy and defence industries. We are certified to ISO 9001 and 14001:2015 to design and manufacture subsea electrical and optical connectors, electrical pressure hull penetrators, associated subsea electrical cable terminations, installation of electrical and optical connectors, specialist underwater and harsh environment electrical and optical composite cables, tethers and umbilicals. Our products are precision-engineered to withstand the harshest environmental conditions.

Objectives / Scope

The Business Development Executive will define, implement, and maintain a robust business development strategy for Hydro Group within the UK and European subsea markets, focusing on expanding market share and achieving growth targets. This includes identifying, managing, and delivering a strong sales pipeline across the defence, oil and gas, and marine renewable energy sectors to meet defined business objectives. It also requires maintaining and strengthening existing client relationships throughout the region while proactively expanding the client portfolio by engaging new opportunities and building strategic partnerships within the UK and European subsea industry.

Experience

  • Demonstrable relevant business development experience, with a background in the subsea industry.

Knowledge

  • Proficiency in identifying and qualifying complex technical and environmental requirements for subsea applications.
  • Proficient in CRM software.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to quickly develop a comprehensive understanding of Hydro Group’s subsea products and capabilities.
  • Highly target-driven and results-focused, with a track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand market trends and competitive landscapes within the subsea sector.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Existing network within the UK and European subsea defence, oil and gas, or marine renewable energy industries.
  • Technical understanding of subsea electrical and optical interconnect solutions.

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Market Development

  • Provide strategic marketing support and contribute to business forecasting for the UK and European markets.
  • Identify immediate, medium, and long-term business opportunities within existing accounts and new prospects in the subsea environment.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the UK and European subsea market, identifying gaps between client needs and competitor offerings.

Business Development & Lead Generation

  • Proactively network (online and offline) to generate new business leads within the subsea industry across the UK and Europe.
  • Generate new clients and leads, collaborating with the wider sales team and business partners to pursue opportunities.

Client Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term client relationships, understanding their evolving needs within the subsea domain.
  • Present and demonstrate subsea products and services to potential clients.
  • Successfully win and close sales opportunities, liaising with internal teams to provide accurate information and quotations.

Industry Engagement & Representation

  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and industry events relevant to the subsea sector.

Technical & Product Understanding

  • Qualify technical and environmental requirements for customer applications within challenging subsea environments.

CRM & Data Management

  • Accurately input customer information from calls and visits into the CRM system.

Reporting & Performance Tracking

  • Provide regular sales performance reports, highlighting progress and market insights for the UK and European regions.

Travel & Additional Responsibilities

  • Undertake additional tasks to support wider business objectives.
  • Travel extensively across the UK and Europe as required.
