Overview: The Co-op position is a temporary, hands-on learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a cooperative education program. We are looking for engineering students to aid in the design and implementation of control and/or electrical systems for automated material handling equipment. This is project/application-based work that provides new and varied technical challenges from one project to the next.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Using AutoCAD for electrical design including device layout, schematic and control panel design and communication architecture.
- Assisting and shadowing senior engineers.
- Performing component selection and bill of materials preparation.
- Configuring standard PLC programs for real-time control of automated equipment and collection of diagnostic and production data.
- Assisting in on-site technical checkout of material handling equipment and controls.
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Have exposure to AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Have exposure to programmable logic controllers (PLC) or programmable automation controllers (PAC).
- Enjoy working as a team to lead the way in providing superior solutions to our customers.
Education & Experience:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Engineering Technology or Computer Science.
Work Environment:
This is primarily a desk-based role, requiring extended periods of sitting and computer use. While the role is mainly desk-based, mobility within the office, manufacturing facility and customer sites may be required for meetings and interactions with colleagues.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to traverse office, manufacturing facility and customer sites.
