Role Overview
We are seeking a technically strong and qualified Air Conditioning Biased Engineering Supervisor or experienced AC Engineers/Senior Engineers looking to take the next step up, to lead and support a team of engineers delivering planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and small works across a range of air conditioning systems. This is a hybrid supervisory role combining 40% office-based responsibilities (compliance management, technical support, and performance oversight) with 60% field-based supervision including site audits and hands-on support where required. The successful candidate will act as the primary technical escalation point while ensuring engineering standards, compliance, and service delivery are consistently maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of engineers delivering PPM, reactive maintenance, and fault diagnosis on commercial split systems, VRV/VRF, AHUs, chillers, and refrigeration units.
- Act as the technical escalation point for complex system faults, operational issues, and client escalations.
- Ensure full compliance with F-Gas regulations, refrigerant handling procedures, environmental legislation, Health & Safety standards, and Permit to Work (PTW) requirements.
- Support the management of engineering rotas to ensure effective coverage for planned maintenance and reactive call outs, including standby or out-of-hours support when required.
- Conduct on-site supervision and technical audits to ensure safe working practices, quality of work, and engineering standards are maintained.
- Oversee and deliver small works projects including system upgrades, installations, replacements, refrigerant tracking, and efficiency improvements.
- Maintain accurate records within the CAFM system including service history, maintenance records, compliance documentation, and refrigerant usage logs.
- Deliver toolbox talks, technical coaching, and regulatory updates to ensure ongoing team development and compliance awareness.
- Provide support to multi-skilled engineers when operational needs require assistance outside of core AC works.
- Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to manage expectations, resolve issues, and ensure a high level of service delivery.
- Support line management with performance monitoring, training development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Act as AP for Air Conditioning within the contract scope.
- Undertake national travel as required to support operational delivery.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (or equivalent).
- Valid F-Gas Certification Category 1 (C&G 2079 or equivalent).
- Time-served apprenticeship or strong background within Air Conditioning / HVAC / Refrigeration systems.
- City & Guilds 7189 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Level 2 or 3.
- City & Guilds 6090 Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Systems.
- Electrical qualification or strong electrical knowledge.
- Experience working under the SFG20 maintenance framework.
- Health & Safety qualification such as IOSH or equivalent.
- Experience working on complex or critical sites including large plant, chillers, and AHUs.
