Post overview: The Board of Amisfield Preservation Trust is looking for a reliable, flexible, self‑motivated and organised person to manage the opening and closing of the garden during weekends and on Tuesdays, and act as the point of contact for visitors. The holder will also work alongside the Garden Coordinator for a half day during the week to align with the garden’s vision and values, and communicate concerns and questions to the Coordinator. The role is offered on a fixed six‑month contract (1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026) and may be considered for renewal in 2027. Job‑share applicants are welcomed.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the opening and closing of the garden during weekends and on Tuesdays.
  • Ensure the garden is a safe place for visitors and volunteers, in conjunction with health and safety policies.
  • Ensure facilities are kept safe and clean.
  • Assist the Garden Coordinator with the organization of garden events during weekends.
  • Ensure the produce area is continually stocked with plants, seasonal fruit, vegetables and other produce.
  • Water plants in the nursery, greenhouse and poly‑tunnel areas as necessary during weekends.
  • Enhance visitor experience by offering a meet and greet service, advising on horticultural interest locations and practicalities, and being the point of contact for enquiries.
  • Work alongside the Garden Coordinator, Well‑Being Worker and Board members to develop Amisfield as a historical walled garden.
  • Work across all parts and aspects of the garden’s horticultural tasks as required.
