Classes are arranged by year group, with the successful candidate teaching students from Year 4 to Year 11, dependent on the candidate\’s specialism. The successful candidate must be able to commit to the position for the academic year.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Trefoil Tutors was founded in 2011 with the aim of bringing a new level of professionalism to tutoring in North London. We are incredibly proud of the quality of teaching and learning we deliver across a range of different subjects in order to augment and support the work done at school with our structured schemes of work and bespoke resources. More than a decade on, our tutors now teach over 300 students a week in Mathematics, English, Reasoning and Science. We pride ourselves in not being a \”tutoring agency\” but rather qualified teachers and experienced tutors who see tutoring as a vocation in itself. Our tutors are supported by a full-time administrative team who assist the tutors in order to ensure they can spend their time focusing on delivering outstanding teaching and learning. Lessons take place weekly during term-time and are taught in purpose-built classrooms at our office in Elstree.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will be asked to teach structured and engaging English lessons to students from Year 4 to Year 11. In order to maintain the consistency of teaching and learning across the company, the following will be provided:

  • A full scheme of work
  • Weekly assignments
  • Three-weekly assessments
  • Classwork materials

Hours
This is a flexible role, and the hours will be discussed with the successful candidate with specific days and times negotiable. This is an excellent role for a candidate who is interested in transitioning from school teaching to tutoring, and as such the quantity of lessons taught can be increased over time based on the changing requirements of both the tutor and the company. Please note that our lessons will take place between 4:30pm and 9:20pm on weekdays, and / or between 10am and 9pm on Sundays.

Salary

We are offering a competitive salary dependent on experience and in line with Independent Schools in the North London area. The range given is for a full-time position.

Weeks and timetable

The contract is based on 36 weeks of term-time teaching in a calendar year and four additional weeks dedicated to parent report meetings, continued professional development and lesson preparation.

Classes

Over the course of a twelve week term, you will teach 90-minute-long lessons with groups of up to six students. This could include running classes from Year 4 to Year 11.

BENEFITS OF PART-TIME TUTORING OVER TEACHING IN SCHOOL

Tutoring at Trefoil offers a number of benefits in comparison to teaching in schools:

More flexible hours

Although the term dates are fixed, the successful candidate will be able to decide when in the week their lessons will be scheduled.

Holidays are protected

As we follow a six half-term timetable with breaks for half-terms in between, Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays are protected.

Faster career progression

Career trajectory is based on building student numbers, providing greater autonomy in progressing your career.

Focus on teaching and learning

Administration such as printing worksheets, assignments and assessments as well as emailing parents is handled by our full-time office team.

Parent evenings

Long and tiring parents evenings are replaced by parent report meetings that take place three times a year and are scheduled within the non-teaching week, at times convenient for the tutor.

Resources

All lesson materials and resources for the English course have already been produced by our Lead English tutor. Allocated time for planning and evaluating lessons. Each lesson taught has an additional hour allocated to planning, marking and feedback, allowing you to consistently provide high quality tutoring.
