Fundraising Intern in London

Reports to: Director of Fundraising

Location: Based at Trees for Cities office in Brixon. Hybrid working offered with at least two days per week in our London office.

Working Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week. Contract: 6-Months, Fixed-Term.

About the role: This is an exciting opportunity to develop a career in fundraising while supporting Trees for Cities' work to create greener, healthier and more resilient urban environments. The Fundraising Intern will work across the Fundraising and wider organisation, gaining experience in prospect research, donor stewardship, fundraising communications, events and corporate partnerships. The role is ideal for someone looking to build their fundraising skills in a supportive environment while making a meaningful contribution to our work.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

• Conduct prospect research to help build and maintain a pipeline of potential supporters across corporates, trusts and foundations, and major donors.
• Identify new organisations, individuals and philanthropists who may be interested in supporting Trees for Cities.
• Support the delivery of an effective donor stewardship programme by producing impact reports, case studies, updates and mailings.
• Work with the Urban Forestry team to support corporate volunteer days and donor visits.
• Complete online applications and enquiry forms for trusts and foundations.
• Support the Fundraising Team with the development of funding proposals, applications and fundraising propositions.
• Assist with the coordination and delivery of supporter and fundraising events.
• Maintain accurate records on Salesforce, SharePoint and other organisational databases.
• Support due diligence and ethical fundraising assessments.
• Assist with the planning and delivery of team away days and internal events.
• Help produce supporter communications and fundraising materials, including employee fundraising packs and campaign resources.
• Support with responding to Fundraising inbox enquiries.
• Support with administration such as invoicing, thanking and receipts.
• Undertake other reasonable duties that support the work of the Fundraising Team.

Person Specification:

Essential:

• Strong interpersonal skills and a confident communicator, both verbally and written.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams in a busy organisation.
• Strong administrative and IT skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to proactively and systematically research potential funding opportunities.
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with initiative and the flexibility to adapt to change.
• Professional and enthusiastic, with a positive attitude and strong willingness to learn.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.
• Eligible to work in the UK.
• An active interest in the natural environment and desire to fulfil Trees for Cities’ mission.

Desirable:

• Experience of brief and/or report writing.
• Experience supporting or coordinating events.
• Experience of using CRM, project management or database systems.
• Previous volunteering, fundraising, charity sector or customer-facing experience.
• Experience of working within the not-for-profit sector.

Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required, particularly during the planting season (October to March), for which staff receive time off in lieu (TOIL).
