About Tree Aid
Tree Aid is at the forefront of high‑integrity, community‑led forest carbon. We work with people in the drylands of Africa to tackle poverty and the climate crisis by restoring land, growing trees and strengthening livelihoods. Since 1987, we have supported the planting and regeneration of over 32 million trees, working alongside more than 1.8 million people. We are now entering an ambitious new phase in our carbon journey.
About the role
This is a rare opportunity to combine deep technical work with real influence over how carbon markets and climate finance work for communities. You will lead the quantification of carbon sequestration across Tree Aid’s growing NbS portfolio, applying recognised standards and methodologies (including Verra VM0047) to translate forest restoration into high‑integrity carbon removal projects across the six countries of intervention (Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Senegal). You will work across the full project lifecycle — from feasibility and modelling, through MRV systems and field data, to credit issuance. The role is highly analytical and hands‑on, involving forest growth and yield modelling, geospatial analysis, MRV system design and the use of advanced tools (e.g. Python/R, GIS, remote sensing).
Main tasks will include:
- Lead the development and delivery of high‑integrity NbS carbon projects across the full project life cycle, from early concept and feasibility through implementation, monitoring and credit issuance, ensuring robust technical, social and environmental outcomes.
- Oversee carbon quantification and modelling for forest and restoration projects, including growth and yield modelling, forest inventories and long‑term sequestration projections, under recognised standards and methodologies (notably Verra ARR methodologies, including VM0047).
- Ensure methodological rigour, data integrity and MRV excellence by designing and maintaining fit‑for‑purpose data systems, integrating field, spatial and remote‑sensing data, and applying advanced analytical tools (GIS, R/Python, databases and spreadsheets).
- Drive technical innovation and continuous improvement through the adoption of emerging tools and technologies, including remote sensing products, drone‑based data collection, land‑cover classification and AI‑enabled monitoring approaches.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and capacity building across country programmes and partner organisations, strengthening internal and external understanding of carbon quantification, data requirements and best practice in NbS project delivery.
- Represent Tree Aid as a recognised technical authority on nature‑based solutions, forest restoration and carbon finance, contributing to advocacy, sustainable finance discussions and national and international policy processes relevant to NbS and voluntary carbon markets.
Why Join Tree Aid?
- Be part of a global first in community‑centred carbon under VM0047
- Help scale innovative NbS projects across six African countries
- Work directly with investors, carbon markets and climate finance mechanisms
- Combine technical leadership with real‑world impact for rural communities
- Grow professionally through exposure to investment, portfolio management and international advocacy

You will be comfortable working with complex datasets and uncertainty, collaborating across cultures and disciplines, and operating in a dynamic organisation where you can shape both projects and strategy.
