Hours: 40 hours per week

The Opportunity

The objective of this role is to provide support to the Quality Team by helping increase the efficiency of sample flow through the laboratory and perform analysis on flavour and fragrance raw materials. The primary functions are to ensure timely sample receipt of material into the laboratory, maintenance of chemical inventory and ensuring the laboratory environment is always kept clean and safe. Alongside this, the role also encompasses classical wet analysis, instrumental analysis, and organoleptic evaluation of products, to ensure that any material that enters or leaves the site is fit for purpose.

What you’ll be doing

  • Maintaining chemical and consumables inventory for the QC laboratory and purchase items necessary for routine and non-routine analysis.
  • Carrying out initial reviews on all samples coming into the laboratory, bulk, split and distribute to the relevant areas/lab personnel.
  • Receiving re-samples and inventory check samples into test.
  • Washing up glassware both in the wet lab and the flavour room.
  • Preparing reagents and standards for routine and non-routine analysis.
  • Maintaining QC retained sample library and retained pre-delivery samples.
  • Arranging for the disposal for hazardous waste from the site by corresponding with the Facilities Manager.
  • Participate in organoleptic evaluation of the products, as necessary.
  • Prepare tasting solutions and arrange for a representative number of individuals to carry out analysis.
  • Carry out regular calibration and maintenance of the measuring instruments as prescribed by the working practices in the laboratory.
  • When necessary, arrange for analytical samples to be sent for external analysis and collate the results.
  • Measure physical parameters of flavour and fragrance raw materials originating from various departments and external sources.
  • Perform classical analysis of flavour and fragrance raw materials originating from various departments and external sources.
  • Perform instrumental analysis on the above products.
  • Perform general essential oil analysis but with further tests specific to the substance under analysis.

General tasks within the department

  • Ensure that the working area in the laboratory is maintained in a clean and orderly condition and that any hazard or potential hazard is reported to the Quality Control Manager.
  • Report any faults or deficiencies in equipment or analytical practices to the Quality Control Manager.
  • Always maintain your own and other staff’s health and safety ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Undergo training in areas specific to Treatt plc business as required.
  • Perform such other tasks that may be required from time to time.
  • Undertake a shift pattern where necessary to continue a high level of service to internal customers.
  • Act in the best interest of Treatt PLC at all times.
